FTDC courses strive to blend the best of theoretical with the practical aspects of learning as part of all academic programmes. Practice ensures relevance for today by exposing students to significant management problems and challenges. Theory ensures relevance for tomorrow by providing general principles that can define and resolve the problems of the future.
In this regard, while the core learning modules continue to be theory led, the holistic aspects of the learning curve are brought about by a series of industry relevant, real life simulated training modules. These comprise, among others, the following :

These are industry visits organized for students to get a first hand and working knowledge of the industry. Field visits are organized to strengthen the application of the theoretical concepts imparted in the classroom and provide the students with the required functional exposure.
FTDC organizes Product Weeks for students to help showcase and focus on the priority products for the export and retail sectors. Specialists from the industry provide practical inputs regarding product sourcing , product development, production techniques and specific product marketing of key export and retail segments.
The Merchandising Lab is a unique concept provided to the students of FTDC, enabling them to visually examine and experience the different product concepts. The lab is well equipped with the latest sampling range of export and retail thrust products comprising, among others, apparels, home furnishings, home accessories, leather items, and costume jewellery. The theory classes are substantiated with interactive Lab sessions which enable students to gain an in-depth understanding of the same.
Class room lectures are a grooming ground for students as they are made to participate in various case study presentations, thereby helping provide them the practical edge honed by striving to better their overall communication skills.
FTDC organizes various industry interface sessions to provide a realistic insight into the trade practices prevailing currently, thereby equipping students to face and handle the industry specific challenges successfully. The speakers addressing the students are consultants and practitioners who address all the queries of students, and provide them career guidance.
